Shahadat Hossain Shakil is a skilled environmental and climate change specialist with more than 12 years of experience. He demonstrates proven expertise in climate resilience, climate finance, sustainability, and environmental compliance. Over the last decade, Shakil has successfully managed a diverse portfolio of approximately twenty technical assistance projects, totaling more than $200 million and involving approximately 1,200 staff.

Shakil led the development of Bangladesh’s first investment plan for the Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change sector, identifying a need of USD 11.7 billion for climate-resilient development. Shakil designed a climate finance initiative to mobilize $650 million for implementing NDC and NAP priorities through resilience bonds, insurance, and carbon markets. Shakil also supervised six NbS projects that enhanced participatory forest governance across more than 50 protected areas, directly involving over 15,000 community members and strengthening the enabling legal frameworks. Shakil has chaired steering and grant review boards, engaged with high-level donor groups, and coordinated cross-sectoral partnerships involving the UN, private sector, and government institutions.

Shahadat holds an MSc in Environmental Governance (University of Manchester), a Diploma in Green Finance (Frankfurt School), and a Bachelor’s in Urban & Regional Planning (BUET). He is also trained in Sustainability and ESG Data Management from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford. He is PMP®-certified and has extensive training in climate economics and trade, private-sector engagement, ESIA, and climate-resilience measurement.
